Group Program

Rural Passage
It is hard to imagine a more exhilarating landscape or people and geography as diverse as Nepal’s. Within its narrow borders, a complete climatic range, from tropical to temperate, alpine to arctic can be found. Cultural diversity is celebrated by the country’s population of 29 million, who speak as many as 30 different languages and dialects.

Our group programs takes place in Nepal but spans the culture of Nepal as well as that of Tibet that thrives among the Tibetan people in exile.

Himalaya Spring / Summer Program
The Langtang program is ideal for students interested in the study of botany, ecology, conservation, wildlife, and life in rural Nepal. The Langtang National Park area is rich in a wide range of flora and fauna with about six different kinds of rhododendrons, many different wild flowers, and orchids. Also available during August and early September are more than 40 different kinds of mushrooms. Seen in the area are wild animals like red panda, Himalayan bear, musk deer, wild boar, leopard, four different kinds of monkeys including the white head langur. More than 200 different species of birds are found in the area.

The Langtang region falls in central Nepal although easily accessible from Kathmandu. It is largely inhabited by the Tamang ethnic group whose religious practices, language and dress more are similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the middle hills.

The program will include home stay with Tamang families, experiencing their way of life and helping with daily chores and related independent study projects.

Taking advantage of the stupendously beautiful landscape, a trek through the Tamang Heritage trail, Kyangzin Gompa or climbing a 5100m peak will be included in the program. During the trek you can visit villages, spend time with yak shepherds, milking and making butter as well as visit the cheese factory.

Custom Passage

Passage believes that our clients should be the primary architects of its programs. Before coming to Asia as well as during the program itself, individuals can work closely with Passage staff to design precisely the kind of program they are seeking. In this way, clients can use their own interests and creativity to ensure that their overseas experience envelops everything that they desire.

We work with clients to create customized trips for individuals, groups, businesses, and schools. We can incorporate any or all of our usual components-home stay, independent study projects, language learning, seminars, trekking and exploration-and design and develop a program to fit the group’s specific needs.

Passage can also design, develop, and facilitate programs for special interest groups in fields such as ecology, photography, the arts and crafts, music, religion, medicinal herbs, adventure travel and much more. We have created special tours for large and small groups of friends, families, and associates of all ages catering specifically to their interests and passions. We have an extensive network of coordinators and guides who can accommodate the needs of any group.

The combination of the extensive opportunities that we have developed and the individually tailored programs we provide make Passage programs the ideal experience for participants looking for a rich, cross-cultural journey.

Schools who would like to offer their students study abroad programs can use us as a resource to help their own teachers develop a program or to create a complete custom program with a prepared educators’ curriculum. We are often able to offer teachers a free trip if they accompany their group of students. Personal Passage

Passage provides personal journeys for mature and motivated individuals of all ages. These can take place at any time and last from six to twenty weeks.

The goal of a Personal Passage is to help students create their own experience by providing the methods, as well as the space and freedom, to make their experience happen for themselves. Unlike traveling to a new land alone, we give the support, contacts, and basic means to know a place and a culture intimately. There are many options.

At least two months before a personal journey begins we start to develop an itinerary through e-mail conversations. We discuss the student’s personal interests and goals and work closely with them to design a unique itinerary that suits their vision.
